Suicide Prevention & Educational Opportunities

ASIST

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a 2-day workshop designed to provide participants with gatekeeping knowledge and skills. Participants are taught to recognize the warning signs of suicide and intervene with appropriate assistance.
Offered for free biannually in Missoula.

QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer)

QPR is a suicide prevention training for participants to be able to recognize the warning signs of suicide and Question, Persuade, and Refer people at risk of suicide to those who can provide help.
Classes are offered online or in-person.

Talk Saves Lives

Talk Saves Lives is AFSP’s standardized, 1-hour training which provides participants with a clear understanding of this leading cause of death, including the most up-to-date research on suicide prevention, and what you can do in your community to save lives.
This class is for anyone wanting to learn more about suicide prevention.

SOS

Signs of Suicide School-based program which combines a curriculum that aims to raise awareness of suicide and reduce stigma of depression. There is also a brief screening for depression and other factors associated with suicidal behavior.
Currently taught in MCPS schools.

SafeTALK

SafeTALK is a four hour training that equips people to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide, and to be better able to connect them with further help.

Mental Health First

Mental Health First Aid is an adult public education program designed to improve participants’ knowledge and modify their attitudes and perceptions about mental health and related issues, including how to respond to individuals who are experiencing one or more acute mental health crises or are in the early stages of one or more chronic mental health problems.
