SUMMARY:QPR at DiverseU
DESCRIPTION:The QPR (Question\, Persuade\, Refer) mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative\, practical\, and proven suicide prevention training. Like CPR for physical health\, QPR equips participants to recognize and respond to the warning signs of suicide and connect individuals to help. \nCollege is a time of growth\, exploration\, and self-discovery—but also one of intense pressure\, identity development\, and change. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students\, with 1\,100 deaths annually and 1 in 12 reporting they have made a plan. In Montana\, American Indian youth experience suicide rates more than five times higher than the state average. Nationally\, LGBTQIA+ students of color\, transgender\, and nonbinary students face disproportionately high levels of suicidal ideation due to minority stress and systemic inequities. \nThis session will explore how mental health and suicide risk intersect with culture\, identity\, and belonging. Participants will gain practical tools to recognize warning signs\, ask caring questions\, and connect someone in crisis with help. \nBy learning QPR\, we strengthen our collective capacity for compassion and connection—because together we’re united in our commitment to ensure no one faces their struggles alone. \nPreventing suicide is a shared responsibility that begins with awareness and connection. This session aligns with the Diversity Day theme by emphasizing that unity goes beyond celebration—it’s about standing together in compassion\, inclusion\, and care for every member of our community. When we learn to listen\, notice\, and act\, we create a campus where everyone feels seen\, supported\, and valued. \nIf you or someone you love is in crisis\, call or text 988 OR text HOME to 741-741 OR for our LGBTQ community\, text START to 678-678. Someone is standing by at all these resources 24/7 to support those in crisis. \n  \n\n\nLocation: UC 330/331
